AUSTIN, Texas – May 11, 2017 – Altogen Labs today detailed its sarcoma and prostate cancer model collections, supporting programs in a rare tumor group and in an indication defined by progression to hormone independence.
Sarcomas are rare, biologically diverse, and chronically underserved by preclinical infrastructure. The Altogen Labs collection includes A673 for Ewing sarcoma, driven by the characteristic EWS-FLI1 fusion; HT1080 for fibrosarcoma, available in orthotopic and metastatic configurations; SJSA1 for osteosarcoma, notable for MDM2 amplification and its use in p53 pathway research; and the S180 allograft syngeneic model for work in immunocompetent hosts.
Prostate cancer programs face a different problem: modeling the transition from hormone-sensitive to castration-resistant disease. The company’s collection covers that spectrum with LNCaP, androgen receptor-positive and hormone-responsive; DU145 and PC3, both androgen-independent and representing advanced castration-resistant disease. PC3 is available with luciferase tagging for metastatic tracking, relevant given that prostate cancer mortality is driven by bone and visceral metastasis.
Both collections are available in subcutaneous, orthotopic, and metastatic configurations, with bioluminescent imaging, histopathology, biomarker screening, and molecular endpoint analysis by RT-PCR and automated capillary Western.
Model selection can be further tailored to the biological mechanism under investigation. In sarcoma studies, this may include evaluation of therapies directed against fusion-driven signaling, MDM2-p53 regulation, proliferative pathways, angiogenesis, or metastatic progression. In prostate cancer, model choice can be aligned with androgen receptor dependence, resistance mechanisms, tumor aggressiveness, and metastatic phenotype. The availability of biologically distinct models allows investigators to compare therapeutic activity across disease states rather than relying on a single tumor background.
These platforms support evaluation of small molecules, targeted inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, nucleic acid therapeutics, combination regimens, and other investigational agents. Study designs can incorporate tumor growth inhibition, regression, survival, pharmacodynamic sampling, tumor and organ collection, immunohistochemistry, gene-expression analysis, and protein-level characterization, enabling efficacy results to be interpreted together with mechanistic and molecular endpoints.
