AUSTIN, Texas – October 24, 2020 – Altogen Labs today detailed its melanoma model collection, pairing seven validated human melanoma xenografts with the B16 syngeneic murine model in both subcutaneous and metastatic formats.
Melanoma occupies a distinctive position in oncology drug development. It was the tumor type where checkpoint blockade first demonstrated durable benefit, and it remains the primary proving ground for new immuno-oncology mechanisms. It is also driven by well-defined mutations – BRAF, NRAS – that support targeted approaches and the study of acquired resistance.
The Altogen Labs collection covers both paths. Human models include A375, widely used in BRAF-directed research, alongside A2058, LOX-IMV1, MeWo, SK-MEL-2, SKMEL28, and A431. The B16 allograft model, available in subcutaneous and metastatic configurations, provides an immunocompetent platform for checkpoint inhibitors, immune agonists, and vaccine approaches.
Metastatic modeling is particularly relevant here. Melanoma mortality is driven by distant spread, and the B16 metastatic configuration allows anti-metastatic activity to be assessed directly rather than inferred from primary tumor measurements.
Immuno-oncology study designs incorporate immune response and biomarker analysis, cytokine profiling, tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte assessment, and flow cytometry alongside tumor growth endpoints. Humanized models engrafted with PBMC, CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells, or iPSC are available where human-specific immune engagement is required.
