AUSTIN, Texas – August 15, 2020 – Altogen Labs today detailed its liver cancer model collection, combining six validated human hepatocellular carcinoma xenografts with two syngeneic murine allograft models.
Hepatocellular carcinoma presents a particular modeling challenge. It arises against a background of chronic inflammation and fibrosis, and its response to immunotherapy — now central to first-line treatment — cannot be assessed in an immunodeficient animal. Programs therefore need both human tumor models for direct antitumor activity and immunocompetent models for immune-mediated mechanisms.
The Altogen Labs collection provides both. Human models include HepG2, Hep3B, Huh7, SK-HEP-1, SNU-398, and SMMC-7721, covering a range of differentiation states and mutational backgrounds. The H22 and Hepa 1-6 allograft syngeneic models allow evaluation in fully immunocompetent hosts, supporting checkpoint inhibitor and immune agonist programs.
HepG2 also serves as the company’s standard hepatic model for metabolic and gene modulation work. Altogen Labs has performed HepG2 cell culture, quantitative PCR, and cell count analysis supporting oligonucleotide therapeutic development, including work referenced in international patent filings.
Models are available in subcutaneous, orthotopic, and metastatic configurations, with tissue-targeted in vivo delivery available for liver-directed nucleic acid programs — an area where the company’s encapsulation and delivery platform has documented performance (altogenlabs.com/xenograft-models).
