Developing novel bioremediation technologies is one of the company’s biotechnology focus areas. Altogen Labs scientists have applied advanced biotechnological techniques to develop new patent-pending bioremediation products and services. We developed unique method for isolation and selection of natural oil-degrading bacteria (library of over 150 strains). These microorganisms were shown in laboratory and field tests to be highly effective in bioremediation of crude oil- and petroleum-saturated earth. Oil-degrading microorganisms are specific to the site of a particular spill, bacteria that act on the hydrocarbon molecules present at the polluted site. Altogen Labs bioremediation technology is fast, safe, and inexpensive for remediation of large amounts of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil and liquids (oil, petroleum, pesticides, carbon tetrachloride, acetone, benzene, toluene, dichloroethylene, and other industrial and chemical manufacturing wastes and spills). This technology is based on acceleration of the natural process using microorganisms discovered in soil and water and provides conversion of toxic, environment-contaminating compounds into innocuous substances by microbial digestion.
Altogen Labs bioremediation technology offers great potential for cleaning up contaminated soil due to rupture of underground storage tanks, pesticides, percolation of contaminated surface water, oil and fuel dumping, leaching of wastes from landfills, and direct discharge of industrial wastes to the soil. Bioremediation is a process that uses microorganisms, fungi, green plants, and their enzymes to restore the environment to its original state after contamination. Bioremediation of soil or water contamination by crude oil is performed by a variety of bacterial microorganisms that feed on hydrocarbons. Degradation of crude oil by bacterial biological mechanisms breaks down the petroleum molecules into less harmful substances. Altogen Labs developed patent-pending methods for isolation, selection, and cultivation of highly efficient natural oil-degrading microorganisms specific to the site of a particular spill – bacterial strains that act on the hydrocarbon molecules present at the polluted site.
Altogen Labs patent-pending bioremediation technology provides conversion of toxic, environment-contaminating compounds (such as crude oil spills) into innocuous substances by bacterial digestion and oil degradation. Our bioremediation technology is specific for contaminated areas and based on acceleration of the natural process using microorganisms discovered in soil and water. Technology is optimized to include consideration of variables in temperature, soil conditions, and oil composition such that these bacteria could be effectively used to remediate contaminated soil on-site when reintroduced in large numbers.
The growth conditions for these natural bacterial strains were optimized for effective oil degradation, bacteria are grown in large volumes in an aqueous solution, from which the water is eventually evaporated to yield a high concentration of bacteria in dry form and low volume. The product is very stable and the dry bacteria can be activated by simply re-introducing a water-based solution. Our bioremediation technology is fast, safe, and inexpensive for remediation of large amounts of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil and liquids.
Our laboratory and field tests results confirmed that our formulation demonstrate superior bioremediation efficiency and long-term effect. When compared to today’s most-efficient bioremediation technologies this technology provides a highly efficient, fast, safe, and inexpensive way to clean up contaminated soil and marine environments through acceleration of the natural bioremediation process (read more about Altogen Labs Bioremediation Products).
